Man it's been a while since I did one of these, but i guess I just wanted to publicly expunge my head of why I love storytelling in not just comics but everything, books, movies, journal entries, conversations, history etc.

Recently I got into a discussion about comic-book related movies and comics, and how i came off kinda has a huge supporter of film more so than the comics themselves, and I know that that awesome friend of mine didn't mean any harm but it got me thinking of why I like movies so much, which lead to me thinking why I like what I like, which all lead to me realizing that I just want to be a damn good storyteller, and will learn how to do it from everything that I can, life, movies, anime, cartoons, whatever. And ultimately transfer all that i learn into the comics I make. When I look at movies I don't see and evil industry out to exploit all that we hold dear, mainly for 2 reasons 99 percent of all big buisness is out to exploit whoever and whatever they can to make money. the second is that the comics industry itself still doesn't treat itself or its creators very well, so it's unfair to just point the gun at movies as the one demon that's not allowed to dabble in funnybooks.

lol and i guess i have a third reason in that, no matter how evil or jacked up the motivations are of big business in entertainment. talented creators still find ways to tell awesome stories regardless. Like any of Grant's Morrison's mainstream work or any movie by Chris Nolan. It's not the evil industry but how hard creators work at trying to appease the moneymaking devils but still put out quality entertainment. My point I guess is that good storyeklling in comics or anything else can't get taken just because a giant corporate machine is behind it. is it hard to do? yes. but that goes without saying. hell it's damn hard to write something good in the first place.

For example I just spent sometime perusing through apple trailers, amazed, entertained, and disappointed at alot of movies from all genres. Funny People by jud apatow looks good. So does The Education of Charlie Banks(looks like it's taking the bully/nerd relationship and taking it further than what's normally done) and surprisingly enough Matthew Mchounagey's (dear god how do u spell his name)Ghost of Girlfriends Past, looks good too. Of course it's another romanitc comedy, but it looks fun,the whole christmas carol ghost bits are a good spin on it. My point is I watched all those trailers and wasn't thinking oh god look how many shitty films that are coming out, but saw i alot of potentially decent ones that will enhance how i tell my stories. The conedies, the dramas, the documentaries are all people telling stories.

The same applies to all the comcis that are out, now as well as books, (man i swear if i had more time i'd read more fiction novels, but right now it takes up too much time to dream up someone else's vision in my head. i know that's a lame excuse, but whatever, lol)

So i guess the reason why I talk about movies just as much as comics (hell i would talk more about history too if time permitted i spent a goodchunk of the morining reading about John Dillinger and all the other badass criminals of the early 30's, the stuff they did actually seems fictional at this point), is because I'm constantly trying to evolve as a storyteller through analyzation ,to hopefully be able to stand next to the greats like Miyazaki, Tezuka, Brad Bird, Chris Nolan, Morrison, Ellis, the team behind Eureka Seven and X'amd, lol this list could go on forever, so i'll just stop. :D

But anyway I've rambled in enough. If you want see how well I'm doing on my storytelling quest check out my graphic novel called My Dog is A Superhero here [link]=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227330439&sr=8-1

Peace :D

You really bring up some good points.
I myself am a moviegoer(comedy, action, horror, thriller, any well written interesting piece of entertainment), but I'm interested in comics because of the colors and action(I love actiony stuff), and some have cool plots.

P.S. I stopped being lazy and just bought a copy of yer comic on amazon:P

Hey man, storytelling is storytelling, regardless of the medium. Pull your inspiration from wherever you find it and channel that energy into your work!
