So every now and then a piece of fiction comes out that immediately brings me back to when i was kid and decided to pursue this crazy dream of mine, the new Speed Racer is one of those. Seriously it was perfect. and if you disagree, awesome. but i was in visual storytelling heaven for an hour an 35 minutes today. It's everything i've always wanted to do as a creator. a simple story with alot of heart that's easily relatable for the entire family and still manages to pack in bad ass action sequences. and don't get me started on the colors being used. i'm a big fan of over saturated things and this movie has it in droves.

but anyway can't write much other than or be super critical or anything. i'm just happy this movie turned me into a little kid being amazed at the first badass thing i ever saw, which in my case i think was bruce lee movies. :D

UPDATE

So i've been kind of saddened by how bad Speed Racer is doing. as of friday it had made only around 5 mil. hopefully it will at least hit 20 by the end of the weekend. I hear people complaining about the "story" and the only thing i can think of is what kind of story were you expecting. some drawn whiny drama about speed and how he feels about racing. i mean these days when there's a young adult hero in order for him to have depth he has to cry alot, ala most of the cast of heroes, excluding hiro and let's not forget the best example of whinyness, smallville. thank god speed wasn't like this.

secondly this movie was supposed to be fun and light-hearted. and i was amazed at some of the diaglogue bits, especially considering this was a pg movie. i swear when was the last time a pg movie was good enough for both adults and kids. that scene with trixie and speed in the car talking about "the birds and the bees" without truly doing anythng physical was awesome. if you're 5 you're thinking "aww they like each other" and if you're 27 you're thinking Speed you dirty dog.

man i swear all this hate comes from what current popular thoughts on the wachowski brothers and not the actual quality of this film. i mean it was like a live action shonen anime. done perfectly with flashbacks. and the young hero bursting towards victory based on his fighting spirit alone. the stuff with him facing his love of racing with the evils of corporate control was well done and definitely should mirror any artist's journey when starting off in the industry they love and coming to terms with how you idealized it in relation to how jacked up it can be.

lol well i think i'll just stop now cause i pretty much could write a thesis about this film.

but here's a well written review of the film that i found at comic book resources.com [link]

now on to finding some food. i'd kill for a sushi delivery store.

Wow. I'm on the fence. But I take it you think this should be a "theatre" move, huh?
It's definitely a theater movie. If possible, see it on the super huge widescreen thing.

I thought it was well worth the 8 bucks. It was entertaining, as well as chock full of wholesome family values. Don't sell out, Speed, stick close to your family and integrity!
All that and some amazing visuals...awesome.
